Athar Husain Khan

Athar Husain Khan has been involved in European and international aviation for over 20 years. A lawyer by training with experience in various fields of law he has enjoyed a wide and varied career in both the private and public aviation sector.

He graduated from the University of Leiden with a degree in European law, Human Rights law, International law, and also specialised in Air and Space law. He subsequently worked as a legal advisor for a chemical company and for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Sciences and Culture, and the Ministry of Transport where he was Senior Policy Advisor and Negotiator on Aeropolitical affairs. He has worked for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as Director Government & Industry Affairs, as CEO of the Association of European Airlines (AEA), and - most recently - as consultant for the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. He has also set up his own company 'The Purest Advice' focusing on consulting in the aero-political world. 

 

Athar was brought up in a bilingual family and spent his early years in the Middle-East, not surprisingly he has a lifelong interest in the interrelational aspects of eastern and western culture, religion and politics.

 

He is a proponent of the u-curve, and synchronicity theories, and believes that the world is in need of an inclusive approach with focus on economy, ecology, human rights and added societal value.

An avid sportsman, Athar enjoys cricket, golf, cycling, running (he has run the New York City marathon three times), and has also represented his country at international level at squash. He is a keen aviator and holds a private pilot’s license.

He lives near Brussels and is married with one son.
